The Tribest Slowstar juicer is said to produce superior quality juice and in less time than some other rival models. The Tribest Slowstar is also considered to be one of the best masticating juicers in its class — Let’s find out if these claims are true.
ABOUT THE JUICER
Tribest has been manufacturing the Slowstar juicer for a good few years now, and the model has enjoyed some upgrades since it was first launched.
The design of the Tribest Slowstar juicer is pretty stylish and modern, although not too minimal. The vertical design is nice and compact, so its modest footprint won’t take too much counter space.
I love the deep red color, but if you’re not as adventurous, or red does not match your kitchen, this masticating juicer also comes in a more conservative silver (model SW-2020).
ASSEMBLY
Like other good masticating juicers, the Tribest Slowstar juicer doesn’t have too many bits, so you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to put it together.
Assembling the five parts (juicing bowl, wiping blade, juicing screen, auger, and top) is pretty straightforward. After a couple of times, it will only take you a few seconds.
OPERATION AND PERFORMANCE
The Tribest Slowstar juicer works smoothly and is nice and quiet. I cannot stress how important buying a quiet juicer is. Once you start juicing every day, and sometimes during the small hours, the last thing you want is an annoyingly noisy juicer that shakes the whole kitchen.
Sure, it’s all fun and games at first, but having the police knocking on your door at 5 am for ‘loud juicing,’ might be a bit embarrassing.
The slow rotation speed of 47 rpm reduces heat build-up and friction, which minimizes oxidation and preserves the live enzymes, nutrients, and essential vitamins. The juice tastes better and stays fresher for longer compared to inferior quality slow juicers and, of course, fast centrifugal juicers.
The juicing screen of the Tribest Slowstar juicer has holes that are large enough to let some pulp pass through. This is not necessarily a bad thing; in fact, the pulp contains solid fiber, which is good for you. However, if you prefer a smoother juice, you can filter it through the provided stainless steel strainer.
The juice from the Tribest Slowstar can be a bit foamy at the top, compared to some of its competition. This foam is simply ‘frothed up’ (or oxygenated) juice. Although it’s not very aesthetically pleasing, it is otherwise fine and normal for most juicers. If you prefer, you can skim it off with a spoon, and you’re good to go.
VERSATILITY
The Tribest Slowstar Juicer is a two-in-one. The mincing attachment allows you to make sorbets, nut butter, baby food, sauces, and other homogenized food.
The frozen sorbets are pretty cool. Simply take some of your favorite frozen fruit, like pineapple, mangos, banana, or strawberries, and let them slightly thaw so they are not too hard.
Feed the semi-frozen ingredients through the Tribest Slowstar with the mincing attachment on. And voilà – you have a soft and sweet frozen fruit sorbet, which taste great without having to add any sugar or flavorings.
The Mincing Attachment turns the Tribest Slowstar juicer into a multi-purpose tool to create your favorite sorbets, nut butter, pâté, and sauces.
CLEANING
Well, what can I say – no matter how much the manufacturers try to sugarcoat it, cleaning your juicer sucks. Some juicers are perhaps easier to clean than others, and the Slowstar juicer is considered to be an easy to clean juicer.
In an attempt to make the process less annoying, Tribest has included a specially-designed cleaning brush. Oh, Tribest.
Moaning aside, cleaning the juicer becomes quicker and easier with practice. Also, I always suggest you clean your juicer parts immediately after use, and the whole process will only take you a few minutes.
PRICE
The Tribest Slowstar Juicer does not come cheap but is undoubtedly one of the best juicer machines in its class. It’s unquestionably good value for money, especially if you’re going to be juicing daily and long-term.
The price is further justified with the Tribest 10-year warranty. However, make sure to buy it from an authorized dealer.
“Makes way more juice than we expected!”
